Bench tests: Why 250 Nm are part of our philosophy

Intensive inspection and testing is part of our quality philosophy. Our current testing rig is an in-house development that has even won a coveted technology prize from the "Steinbeis Stiftung".

The strength test: insight into our testing rig procedure

In addition to the extreme “climate tests” that we regularly carry out, our standard test program also includes testing rig tests in which our gear hubs are subjected to varying torque values over long distances. This is the only way we can ensure that the 3X3 NINE can permanently withstand the latest e-drives, which are becoming increasingly more powerful in terms of torque on cargo bikes or e-mountain bikes, for example. As the pedals are pedalled exceptionally hard by the courier professionals, the forces acting on our gear hub are enormous and significantly higher than the torque generated by the electric motor alone.

That’s why 250 Nm is currently the measure of all things for us – even for new generations of e-drives, which are guaranteed to increase in power in the future. A 3X3 NINE can handle this with ease and still works reliably even at 250 Nm input torque.

Steinbeis-award winning testing rig for bike gear hubs

The fact that our 3X3 NINE is now causing a furore on the bike market is due in part to our philosophy of testing and inspection. Together with the “Steinbeis-Stiftung”, one of the leading companies for knowledge and technology transfer, we have developed a testing rig that precisely fulfils our product development requirements.

Our own “Testing rig for testing bicycle gear hubs” even received the coveted “Löhn Prize 2023” from the “Steinbeis Stiftung”. This exclusively honours “transfer projects” that demonstrate an outstanding transfer between science and industry. In our case, together with the “Aalener Steinbeis-Transferzentrum Innovative Antriebstechnik”, we have developed a bike gear hub testing rig that guarantees ideal conditions for realistic testing of the gear hubs of the future. Find out more at this link.

To summarise: As we leave nothing to chance, even on the testing rig, the standard tests of our gear hubs are essential for the quality advantage that we have achieved.
