Newly refined: The Tern HSD S9i with 3X3 NINE

Compact, versatile and ready for big tasks: Tern has refined its proven HSD – and equipped the new HSD S9i with our 3X3 NINE for the first time.
Plenty of cargo bike in a compact package
The Tern HSD is ideal for anyone who wants to carry more in everyday life without riding a large and bulky cargo bike. Groceries, luggage, a child or even an adult passenger: with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 190 kg and a rear rack capacity of up to 80 kg, the HSD is ready for almost anything.
Despite its impressive carrying capacity, it remains compact, agile and easy to ride. Its low centre of gravity, longer wheelbase and optimised frame geometry provide stable handling, even when heavily loaded. After the ride, the bike can be parked vertically, while the handlepost folds down in just a few seconds – ideal for lifts, hallways and small storage spaces.
And if several people share the HSD, that’s no problem either: the cockpit can be adjusted without tools to fit riders between 153 and 205 cm tall.
A gear hub that can handle
the load
In the new HSD S9i, the Bosch Performance Line PX motor with up to 90 Nm of torque works together with our 3X3 NINE. It’s a combination that makes perfect sense: an e-cargo bike needs a shifting system that can handle heavy loads, frequent starts and steep climbs.
The NINE offers nine evenly spaced gears, a 554% gear range and a maximum input torque of up to 250 Nm. That means you always have the right gear – from setting off with a full load to riding comfortably at higher speeds.
Shifting is controlled electronically via the wireless 3X3 E.TR CMD trigger. Thanks to its integration into the Bosch Smart System, gears can be changed precisely – even at a standstill or under load. When you stop, the Auto-Downshift function automatically selects your preset starting gear, so you are ready to set off again in the right gear – especially useful when carrying heavy loads.
The sealed gearbox protects the internal components from dirt and external influences. No regular oil changes are required. Combined with the Gates Carbon Drive, it creates a durable, low-maintenance drivetrain that is perfectly suited to a bike designed to work hard every day.
The Tern HSD S9i with the 3X3 NINE will soon be available from authorised Tern dealers.
