Our goal wasn’t to reinvent the cargo bike, but to take what already exists and elevate it to the next evolutionary stage through technical finesse. Thanks to the latest generation of BOSCH electric drive systems, even a fully loaded NC1 can be ridden effortlessly and smoothly by untrained riders over long distances and up steep inclines.

In developing the cargo bike, the engineers at NICOLAI focused especially on areas that might seem contradictory at first glance. The NC1 was designed to be stable, durable, and safe — yet also light and agile.

Here’s how that vision was brought to life: two battery compartments are smartly positioned beneath the cargo bed, shifting more weight toward the front wheel. This lowers the center of gravity, which positively influences handling. The robust steering linkage with double end stops prevents oversteering while still allowing for a wide steering angle and a remarkably tight turning radius.

In other words: NC1 riders can corner smoothly even in tight spaces — and maintain excellent balance while doing so.
